Benefits of Lasik Eye Surgery

I’m considering having lens replacement surgery in January 2007. What have you experienced?

LadyLgl asked:

I am extremely myopic with astigmatism. I can’t have lasik surgery because my corneas are too thin - they can’t shave enough off to significantly improve my eyesight. I also have “dry eyes.” I’ve done some research over the internet and saw recently that the fluid removed from the center of the eye during lens replacement used to be replaced with saline, but cloudiness was a problem. I read there is a new fluid now used that simulates normal fluid. I’d be interested in your experience and anything you know about the procedure, what to expect, healing and the new fluid replacement.
The procedure is the same one used for people with cataracts and has been used for years. My main concern is the fluid used to replace the fluid removed in order to perform the procedure.

Lasik vs. intralasik?

Kevin g asked:

My wife is contemplating getting lasik surgery. We were talking to the surgeon that her normal eye doctor recommended about doing the surgery. My wife read an article about “intralasik”, which apparently uses a laser to cut the flap rather than a machine. We asked the surgeon we had been talking to about intralasik, and he doesn’t do it. My wife is intent on doing intralasik rather then regular lasik, so we have been doing some research and the only place we could find in town that does it was a place called “Luna eye center”. It makes me nervous because they are always advertising discount rates for half the price that the other surgeon was going to charge. I have heard that you get what you pay for when it comes to lasik. Does using a better procedure make up for the fact that the doctor at a cut-rate eye center may not be as experienced as a pricier doctor?
Just to summarize. Is the difference between lasik and intralasik big enough to justify going to a less reputable doctor in order to get intralasik vs. regular lasik at a more reputable doctor?

Ophthalmology - lens replacement?

tolstoi1 asked:

My left eye, for driving lenses, has this prescription:
+3.75 sph, -.75 cyl, 084 axis.

The lasik center says both lasek and PRK can only make as much correction as I could expect from glasses. For the level of correction I need for 20/20 they need to replace the natural lens.

1) How do you measure or quantify correction levels?
2) Could the lasik PLUS glasses achieve the same level of correction without replacing the natural lens?
I’m 59. I got a second evaluation.

My left eye has always been “lazy” but apparently can be corrected to 20/30 with glasses.

Partly as a precaution I would like it to be very close to 20/20. I don’t mind using reading glasses or even driving glasses to give additional correction beyond Intralase lasik or lens replacement.

One service quoted $5000 for lens replacement on the left eye and $1800 for Lasik on the right eye = $6800.

The other quoted two eyes, Intralase lasik, $3800. They said the best I could expect on the left eye would be 20/25 but they wanted to fix both eyes at the same time.
I’m studying a product called crystalens.

Can you go a week without government provided services?

lasik benefits
Answerer asked:

I hear some hard core neocons say, “the government has no right to tax me at all of any of my money.”

I know the government wastes money, lets not get diverted into that arguement, but do you really think the government should take NO money? My challenge is to go a week without something provided by the government.

1. Do not use Police

2. Do not use Fire Department

3. Do not drive on roads (built by government)

4. If you went to public school, all knowledge gained there is forfeit.

5. If you received any kind of government assistance for college, knowledge you learned there is forfeit for this week.

6. If you benefit from any medical procedure that was a result of government funding, benefits from procedure must be forfeited. (This includes LASIK (technology from NASA) and several vaccines).

7. Do not use freedom (paid for by taxes that pay military)

Let me know how it goes, good luck!
Woah, I just realized something. You can’t even answer this question unless you agree with me. The Internet was created by DARPA, a government organization about 1969 or so.

Would Lasik eye surgery benefit me?

I have 20/20 vision in my left eye, but my right is blurred. Doctor says I have a lazy eye, and it’s been this way since I was a child. Can Lasik eye surgery correct this even though I’ve had this vision problem for decades?

Question about lasik?

Mike asked:

What was ur experience getting lasik surgery? do the benefits outweigh the risks?

Lasik or PRK? Cost? Benefit?

tolstoi1 asked:

In Orange County, CA, I was referred to a laser specialist who offers both Lasik and PRK. Apparently Lasik is cheaper but PRK has benefits.

With a discount, PRK is $3000 per eye.

1) Is PRK better?
2) Which services in Orange County have better results or lower prices?

Any feedback would be helpful.
