Brian asked:
anybody know how the corneal flap created during lasik compares with wearing a contact lens? i’ve read about “significant trauma” being required to dislodge the flap after surgery, but have no rating scale to quantify what that trauma would look like. i’m wondering if it would be similar to if i were wearing contacts. that is to say, if my regular activities while wearing contacts never led to a contact being knocked out or even scratching my cornea, could i assume that i’m not encountering enough trauma to dislodge the lasik flap? is the corneal flap held on at least as strong as a contact lens?

I heard that if you have LASIK surgery, you can no longer ride a rollercoaster, pilot an airplane, or even ride a car with the top down. The so-called reason is that the flap in your eye created by the laser might open up again or come loose in the event of high-G forces or gusts of wind. Is this really true? I love roller coasters but am thinking about getting LASIK myself and would love to know the true answer to this myth.

I have had lasik about two weeks, and then last week I have had to get my flaps open again because one of my eyes were slightly inflamed while the flap on the other one wrinkled (causing blurry vision). After my second surgery last week I have been gradually getting beter but it has been 11 days now and I still can’t have trouble with computer work and lights. Anyone out there with similar experiences and how long does it take to reach 20/20?

I heard that there is a new technology that when we under go a lasik surgery, the eye surgeon actually don’t cut the flap. I was wondering is it true?

I’ve considered having Lasik surgery to correct my vision. When I went to an informaiton session they talked about Lasik and PRK. The doctors suggested PRK for people who do contact sports (I’m active in martial arts, boxing and hockey). They said that the flap from the Lasik surgery could be jarred lose in contact sports. Has anybody had this experience? Or have you had Lasik and still participate in contact sports with no problems?

Does anyone know about this procedure and how safe is it to get it done within weeks of surgery?

I figure smoking weed would probably dry out your eyes, and since I am getting lasik where they cut a flap, the idea of my eye being too dry and something getting messed up kind of freaks me out! I was thinking of at least waiting a week before smoking again, but is that too soon? I have no idea…
